Style Masterclass with Calvin Klein

A few weeks ago I went along to the Calvin Klein store on Princes Street for a Style Masterclass. The event was part of Edinburgh’s International Fashion Festival. The event was hosted by the lovely Ann from frocktrade.com. For the Style Masterclass part of the evening, Ann had styled 3 different looks for us, all featuring jewellery from the Calvin Klein range.

Outfit one was a date night look. I really liked the simple outfit of jeans and a shirt dressed up with some heels and jewellery. Ann shared her top tips for wearing white which include carrying a stain remover in your bag (and avoiding tomato sauce), ALWAYS wear nude underwear under white and to miss the fake tan.

Outfit two was an office appropriate look. This would be perfect if you work in a corporate environment or to wear to your next big meeting. Again the outfit was pretty simple with a smart dress dressed up using the Calvin Klein jewellery. I really liked how this jewellery ranges mixed metals. I particularly love how rose gold looks with silver. Having one piece with mixed metals makes it easier to team your other jewellery. For example, a bracelet with both gold and silver means you can wear your silver rings and gold necklace together as the bracelet pulls everything together.

Outfit three was a much more casual weekend look. Again it was a really simple outfit of jeans and a t-shirt. Adding the denim shirt (creating a double denim look) and the leather jacket made the outfit that bit more stylish. As this was a casual look the jewellery was much more understated with a man’s watch, chunky ring and necklace.

After our fashion masterclass, it was time for some networking and browsing the beautiful jewellery and watches. And of course, there was plenty of prosecco and nibbles for us to enjoy. I’ve never been into the Princes Street Calvin Klein store before so made the most of the chance to have a look around. The store itself is well laid out with large display cabinets, the walls were decorated with Calvin Kleins latest advertising images. I remember having a Calvin Klein watch when I was younger (they were very popular in the 90s) but can’t say I would consider one now. The watches were all very beautiful but I do think there are better watches available at that price point (around the £200 mark). The jewellery in the store was beautiful but I felt it was a little overpriced (see images below) for what is essentially fashion jewellery. When I spend a lot of money on jewellery I want it to be something I can wear again and again rather than a fashion piece which will go out of style. I’ll stick to picking up cheaper items from Primark and Topshop.

It was a lovely event and the team at Calvin Klein did a great job organising it and made everyone feel welcome (as well as keeping our glasses topped up). If you want to view the jewellery and watches you can pop into the Edinburgh store (42a Princes Street) or check out the website www.calvinklein.com
