Instead of switching up my capsule wardrobe for the summer, I decided to continue using my spring capsule wardrobe. One of the main reasons for this is that the weather doesn’t change that much between spring and summer here in Scotland. Another reason is I picked key essential pieces for my spring capsule wardrobe which also transition well into summer. Today I wanted to share my 5 summer fashion essentials for a Scottish summer. These 5 pieces will get you through a warm summers day as well as all those rainy summer days.
For me a white blouse is a wardrobe stable, whether you go for a structured shirt or more feminine blouse you will reach for it over and over again. I’ve picked out a simple sleeveless blouse I got from ASOS last summer. This is so easy to wear with jeans for a more relaxed look but can also be teamed with smart trousers for work. There are so many pretty options out there, make sure you choose something you really love and know you’ll wear again next year. I’ve picked out a few options for you below.
Girlfriend jeans are slightly more fitted than boyfriend jeans but still looser (and more comfortable) than skinny jeans. My pick is the Lucas jeans from Topshop (buy here) and they are the comfortable pair of jeans I’ve ever owned. Being on the short side I like to wear mine with the leg rolled up. Being jeans these can be worn with pretty much anything and for most occasions, so are worth the investment.
Up until earlier this year, I’d forgotten how versatile a denim skirt is to your wardrobe. I remember loving my distressed denim mini skirts back in the early noughties (normally worn with high heels on a night out) but now it all about a more classic, grown-up style. After falling in love with button down skirts over the winter I knew I had to pick up a button down skirt for spring summer. I ended up choosing a denim one and have had so much wear out of it already.
Peep Toe Boots
A pair of simple sandals is a must have every summer. I’ve picked a pair of leather peep toe boot style sandals, these are perfect for the Scottish summer. The boot shape doesn’t look out of place on a rainy summers day, but at the same time, they look great with summer dresses. They also enable me to continue my obsession with ankle boots throughout the summer
