Sorry for being a bit MIA this week. I really hate to use this word but I’ve been really busy. What with my new job and planning some major home renovations (more on that later) I haven’t had the time to blog. I thought I’d ease myself back into writing with a good old fashion life catch up. So grab a coffee and let’s have a chat all about life, style and blogging.
A couple of weeks ago (before the dreaded B word kicked) the hubby and I had a photo shoot with the fab Michael from Moon Rabbit Weddings. We spent a Monday evening roaming around the woods taking pictures. Sounds like an odd way to spend your evening but it was great fun. Michael was fab and made us feel relaxed and at ease. He even put up with our crazy dog insisting on being in every shot. The pictures turned out great and I love the way Michael edited them. If you are planning an engagement shoot or looking for a wedding photographer in Edinburgh I highly recommend you check Michael out.
I’m a few weeks into my new job and slowly starting to settle into my new routine. I’m lucky that the job is really flexible and I can pretty much set my own hours which is fab. Still getting used to working full time again and working out how this blog will fit into my new routine. But I’m sure after a couple more weeks I’ll have it sorted, so bare with me.
Now for the really exciting news, we’re currently planning a major home renovation. What started out as changing the conservatory and living room flooring has turned into a complete renovation of the downstairs of our house. We’re now looking to knock down the wall between our kitchen and dining room to create an open plan kitchen/dining room. This will also include a brand new kitchen which I’m so excited about. We’ve talked about doing this job since we moved in 2 years ago so it’s exciting to see things start happening. We’ll also be putting new flooring down in the hallway, utility room and my husband’s study. All the rooms will also get a fresh coat of paint. There is so much work to do and I’m dreading all the upheaval it will cause. But I’m sure it will be worth it in the end.
I’m not sure if I’m going to blog the process or not so let me know if you’d like to see some home renovation posts.
I’ve been living with my spring capsule wardrobe for well over a month now. And things are going great, I haven’t felt the need to change anything or noticed any gaps. I started my capsule wardrobe with another 10 x 10 style challenge which I loved doing. I’ve done a few style challenges now and loved every one of them. In fact, I’m tempted to try a longer one, maybe 30 x 30.
Along with the new job came some new clothes and a new workwear edit. When I was offered the job I already had my spring wardrobe sorted and was really happy with it. So instead of going back to square one with my capsule wardrobe, I decide to create a small workwear edit. I have around 15 pieces in my workwear edit which sits alongside my capsule wardrobe. Separating them was more about helping me plan things out than needing 2 wardrobes. I think I will be incorporating everything into my next capsule wardrobe without any separate clothing types. I will be sharing my full workwear edit next week so look out for it.
I’ve been in full-on ethical fashion blogger mode for the last couple of weeks. Fashion Revolution week left me feeling really inspired and renewed my commitment to making more responsible fashion choices. For Fashion Revolution week itself, I interviewed 5 amazing ethical brands, to help you get to know the people who make your clothes a little better. I have lots more brand interviews coming up in the next few months. I was invited to run a workshop and be part of a panel discussion at Edinburgh’s Fashion Revolution event. After I shared this on Instagram a lot of you were saying you wished you could have made it along to hear me talk. So I decided to turn my workshop into a blog post. You can read my beginners guide to creating a more sustainable wardrobe here.
I also sent out my first monthly newsletter which was very exciting. Although this does give me another set of analytics to geek out over. I love how you can see how many people open your email and which links they click. If you want to see the next email (and give me, even more, analytics to obsess over) you can subscribe in the footer.
I have lots of plans for this blog over the next few months, just need to find ways to make it happen. I really want to start using this blog to show that an ethical and sustainable wardrobe is attainable. But I want this to be done in a positive way. I’ve spoken a lot the dark side of fast fashion and while I think it’s important we all know this it can a little negative sometimes. This blog should be a happy place for you to visit so I’m going to approach responsible fashion from a more positive point of view. Right now this means introducing you to great brands and sharing ways you can be more ethical without any guilt. Well, that’s the plan anyway.
Things here will be back to normal on Monday with a fresh post, so make sure you come back for that. I’ll leave you with this fab picture of my dog Michael took on our shoot. He’s such a little poser!
